Public advocacy and political activity
The global transition to low-carbon energy will require unprecedented collaboration. Shell works with governments, regulators and industry associations to help inform the debate and accelerate technological and social change.
Our work with industry associations
Industry associations allow us to share knowledge and best practices with other companies. They provide a valuable platform to engage with governments, regulators and communities.
In April 2019 Shell published its Industry Associations Climate Review. This report assesses alignment with 19 industry associations on climate-related policy.
It will serve as the basis for further conversations with industry associations, investors and civil society so that we can continue to work constructively together.
Our approach to climate change
The world needs to take urgent action to tackle climate change. The Paris Agreement set a goal of keeping the rise in the global temperature well below 2° Celsius, and Shell strongly supports it. Our ambition is to make sure the energy we sell is in tune with society as it moves towards that goal.
Shell intends to cut the carbon intensity of the energy products we sell, in step with society as it moves towards the goal of the Paris Agreement. That means fewer greenhouse gases emitted on average with each unit of energy we sell – by around 20% by 2035 and by around half by 2050.
And that includes all the emissions from the life cycle of each of our energy products: from production to processing, to transportation and through to final use.
We call this our Net Carbon Footprint ambition.
We aim to share our knowledge, experience and understanding of the energy system with policymakers. We have, for example, presented our Sky Scenario to governments and international institutions.
